Thomas Tuchel has confirmed the reason why Armando Broja has left Chelsea’s pre-season tour of America, amid interest from Newcastle.
The forward initially didn’t join his teammates on the plane, as he looked to resolve his future. Then he did travel to the States, with no significant progress over a move away from Stamford Bridge.
However, the 20-year-old is now back in England. He barely had time to even unpack his bags.
This led to intense speculation over a move to West Ham. It has been reported that personal terms have been agreed between club and player.

Now Tuchel has commented on the situation.
What Thomas Tuchel has said about Armando Broja
The Chelsea manager has spoke to their official website and given an update on how things are going in Orlando. As part of his update, he gave the real reason why Broja has returned home.
“Armando had to travel home,” he said.
“He’s had a little accident in training. He needs further examinations and treatments in London. It did not make sense to have him as an additional player.

“The best way for him to get the best treatment and come back on the pitch as soon as possible was for him to go back to London and get the treatment there.”
Newcastle move still feels unlikely
While Broja’s return might be injury related, it does seem very coincidental that it happens at the same time West Ham step up their efforts to sign him.
There will surely be news over his future in the coming days, when he will likely become another player who Newcastle can cross off their list.
A move to West Ham isn’t guaranteed, but the Magpies feel nowhere near a deal for Broja. There’s been no speculation beyond Eddie Howe’s side being keen.

It’s a shame, because he would be a brilliant signing. Getting him on loan would have been ideal, as it would have allowed us to spend more money elsewhere.
However, it doesn’t look like that will be happening. There is talk that Broja could join West Ham permanently amid a reported £30million bid.
A move there makes sense. He’ll play a lot of football, compete in Europe and be able to remain living in London.
As for Newcastle, they will look elsewhere, which is becoming a common theme this summer.
