Newcastle United target Armando Broja is no closer to securing a move away from Chelsea, and is now set to travel to the USA.
That’s according to the Athletic, who state that the striker is now going to link up with the Blues on their pre-season tour of the States.
The 20-year-old wasn’t initially selected as part of the travelling group, as speculation over a move away intensified. Newcastle have been linked with him, as well as West Ham and Everton. Frank Lampard is certainly a fan of Broja, calling him a ‘very good player‘ earlier this year.
He is a man in demand, but won’t be leaving Chelsea just yet.
Broja travelling to USA will delay possible Newcastle move
The Athletic state that Broja will now fly to America later this week to meet his Chelsea teammates. They are there for at least the next 10 days, with friendlies scheduled against Club America, FC Charlotte and Arsenal.
Broja will hope to be involved, and make a case to Thomas Tuchel that he should be part of his plans this season. Chelsea are a striker light now after all, with Romelu Lukaku returning to Inter Milan on loan.
However, it still feels likely that the Albania international will leave Chelsea this summer. He surely isn’t going to get the minutes he craves at Stamford Bridge, although at least he now has a chance to impress during pre-season. Their final game is against Arsenal on July 23rd.
Where he ends up remains to be seen. Each side interested will likely feel they have a genuine chance of signing him.
The terms of any deal might be important, with Broja not keen on another loan move. That might scupper Newcastle’s plans, although a loan with an option to buy might suffice.
However, news of Broja travelling to America is because there has been no movement on a transfer. Newcastle are no closer to adding Broja to their squad, and any move will likely be put on hold while Tuchel puts the striker through his paces across the pond.
