Newcastle transfer news: Toon plan to bid for Angelo Gabriel

Newcastle United’s interest in signing Santos wonderkid Angelo Gabriel is intensifying.

The Magpies were linked with the Brazilian teenager earlier this month. Globo Esporte in Brazil claimed that Newcastle have been closely monitoring the forward.

Now another Brazilian outlet have provided more information. IG Esporte report that Newcastle will now make a bid for Angelo after making contact with his representatives.

Talk of a move for the 17-year-old is exciting. He’s one of the top talents in South America today, and has been likened to PSG superstar Neymar. That’s high praise indeed.

While the tabloids may want us to believe that Neymar is coming to St James’ Park, the Toon hierarchy want to sign the second coming of Brazil’s talisman.

However, don’t expect to see Angelo playing for Newcastle any time soon, even if we do complete a deal.

Angelo Gabriel can’t move clubs until 2023 as Newcastle plan bid

Any deal for Angelo won’t be completed until January 2023. That’s because the player is only 17. He turns 18 in December, which is when he will be allowed to leave Santos.

Premier League clubs are not allowed to sign foreign players under the age of 18. So while Newcastle can sign Angelo now, he won’t officially become a Toon player until the start of next year.

That’s not a problem, as he would hardly be a player for the present. He’s clearly one for the future.

Newcastle already have two Brazilian stars in Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton, and now they want to add to that tally.

A move for Angelo would also represent a change in transfer policy. The club want to bring in the best young talent who can grow at Newcastle and turn into first-team stars.

Angelo certainly has the potential to do just that. Hopefully the Magpies do make a move, and we can see him in a black and white shirt come January 1st 2023.
