Newcastle United have reportedly been joined in the hunt to sign Boubacar Kamara and Franck Kessie by Aston Villa.

Currently, the Magpies’ midfield is in a very good place.

Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Willock and Joelinton have all been outstanding during 2022.

The trio have been so good, that marquee January signing Bruno Guimaraes has not yet started for his new club.

Despite things going so well at the moment, Newcastle are sure to splash the cash this summer.

Newcastle have been linked with moves for Marseille star Kamara and most recently Kessie of AC Milan.

Both players stand to leave their clubs as free agents at the end of the season.

But Newcastle won’t have an easy task of signing one or both, with Aston Villa having reportedly now joined the hunt.

According to Il Milanista, Steven Gerrard’s side have already put forth an offer to Ivorian dynamo Kessie.

And Villa are also one of a few names in the hunt for Kamara (Jeunes Footeux), who supposedly has huge salary demands.

Villa and Gerrard could be strong competition for Newcastle this summer

It is interesting to see that Villa are also looking at both Kessie and Kamara ahead of the summer transfer window.

Newcastle will certainly be an attractive proposition, assuming the club retains its Premier League status.

But Villa are also in a good moment right now, and Gerrard is obviously a huge name.

The legendary former midfielder has already shown his pulling power, with the club landing Philippe Coutinho in January. Kessie and Kamara are both midfielders, and may like the idea of working with the ex-Liverpool icon.

Newcastle may well be serious about landing Kamara or Kessie or both. But it will potentially take a big effort if Gerrard is also sniffing around.
