Newcastle transfer news: Toon could go back in for Joao Pedro

Newcastle United could reportedly revisit their bid for Watford forward Joao Pedro.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who state that Everton are going to revive their interest in the Brazilian after his move to Newcastle collapsed.

However, they report that the Magpies could re-enter the conversation before Thursday’s transfer deadline. The Daily Mail also state that Newcastle would now prefer a loan deal then pay for him next summer.

With less than two days to go in the transfer window, time is running out for Pedro to make a return to the Premier League, whether it’s with Eddie Howe’s side or Frank Lampard’s.

But the Hornets ace has really proved himself over the past few days since talk of a move to Newcastle was put on hold.

Joao Pedro flying at Watford

At one point in time, it was claimed by Fabrizio Romano that a deal for Pedro to join Newcastle was done. A bid of £30million in total was apparently accepted and he was going to sign a six-year deal.

However, that has proven to be incorrect. Instead, Newcastle smashed their transfer record to bring in Alexander Isak. He has cost £59million from Real Sociedad.

As the Magpies turned to Isak, Pedro returned to action for Watford. And he’s been brilliant.

The 20-year-old missed the draw with Preston due to injury, back when it looked like a move to Newcastle was very much on. But he’s since returned to the starting lineup and played brilliantly.

He got a goal and an assist in defeat to QPR at the weekend, then set up Ismaila Sarr during Tuesday night’s 2-1 triumph over Middlesbrough.

Fresh Newcastle move feels very unlikely

While a lot of fans were excited to see Pedro become a Magpie, a fresh move this late in the day feels unlikely.

Having previously made big money bids, there’s no way that Watford would now accept a loan offer. They will want money up front so they can reinvest it into their squad.

And given Pedro would play a similar role to Isak, it feels incredibly unlikely that Dan Ashworth will revisit the deal so soon after getting the Swede in.

While the young Watford ace is an ‘excellent‘ player with a lot of potential, it would be a shock to see him in a Newcastle shirt this season.

Even a move to Everton would be a surprise, given their interest hasn’t advanced since the Magpies pulled out of the race last week.

Perhaps claims they were willing to match Newcastle’s offer were wide of the mark after all
