Newcastle transfer news: How Benjamin Sesko feels about potential Toon move

Benjamin Sesko looks like another player Newcastle United are going to miss out on.

The teenager emerged as a target after his agent was spotted on Tyneside, with the Daily Mail then reporting that Sesko is on Newcastle’s list of targets.

The Magpies are currently in the market for a striker, as Eddie Howe looks for a strong backup option for Callum Wilson. A young forward would be ideal – someone who can eventually replace Wilson as the club’s main goalscorer.

Sesko certainly fits the bill, but it doesn’t sound like he is keen on a move to St James’ Park.

Sesko doesn’t want Newcastle transfer

According to the Northern Echo, the 19-year-old is not interested in a move to Newcastle this summer. They state that Sesko does not want to move clubs at such a ‘pivotal stage of his development’.

The forward currently plays for RB Salzburg, a team that is well known for its ability to nurture young talent. It’s where Erling Haaland first emerged onto the scene.

A long list of players have came through the Austrian club, and then sold on for big profits. That’s another reason why Sesko is unlikely to join Newcastle.

Karim Adeyemi led the line for Salzburg last season, but he has now joined Borussia Dortmund after Haaland’s move to Manchester City. The Northern Echo add that the Red Bull side are not keen on selling another talented striker.

It therefore looks like Sesko won’t be heading to the North East this summer. While it’s a blow, his reason for wanting to stay put is sensible. He’s thinking long term, and knows he’s at the right place to further his development.

Could he have done that at Newcastle too? Absolutely. But he wouldn’t have been a guaranteed started, nor will be play in Europe. Those are the opportunities he will be afforded at Salzburg.

While he almost certainly isn’t joining Newcastle this summer, he is likely one to keep an eye on in the future.
