Newcastle United target Christian Pulisic is set for crunch talks with Chelsea over his future.

That’s according to ESPN, who state that the 23-year-old will push to leave Stamford Bridge if he is not assured he will play regular first-team football.

The winger is one of four Chelsea players who Newcastle have asked about, as Eddie Howe looks to exploit Thomas Tuchel’s bloated squad.

Plenty of Blues will leave Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes, and Newcastle are keen to bring at least one in. Dan Ashworth is reportedly interested in Armando Broja, Conor Gallagher and Callum Hudson-Odoi, as well as Pulisic.

The latter would be the most high profile arrival at St James’ Park, and Newcastle could find out soon whether or not a deal is definitely possible.

Why Christian Pulisic wants showdown talks with Chelsea

It seems that there are multiple reasons why Pulisic isn’t happy at Chelsea right now.

ESPN state that he is concerned he won’t play regularly enough ahead of the winter World Cup. That could hinder his impact for the USA, who will be relying heavily on the £58million man.

That wouldn’t be an issue if he joined Newcastle. He would surely be a guaranteed starter for Eddie Howe.

Another issue that Pulisic has reportedly encountered is the manager. ESPN claim that the American is frustrated with Tuchel, who has played Pulisic out of position on more than one occasion. He even tried to reinvent him as a wing-back!

That also wouldn’t be an issue if he joined Newcastle. The only change would be from left to right wing depending on what Howe prefers.

Pulisic’s Chelsea future might depend on who else arrives at Stamford Bridge. They are still looking to make more signings. That could hinder Pulisic more and force him to leave.

Then it will depend on whether or not Newcastle can convince him to move to St James’ Park. So far there have been no claims that he is or isn’t keen on joining. In that respect, no news is good news.

But Pulisic would be a staggering signing for the Magpies, and the pick of the bunch of the four Chelsea players we’re interested in. However, he is also the most ambitious.

His situation should become a lot clearer after these talks that ESPN have reported.
