Newcastle transfer news: Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile ruled out with injury

Newcastle United’s plans to sign Benoit Badiashile could be in tatters.

The Monaco centre-back has reportedly been identified by the Magpies as an alternative to Sven Botman, who seemingly won’t be leaving Lille for Newcastle.

The Dutch defender was PIF’s top target, but the Ligue 1 side are unwilling to sell the 21-year-old this month.

That’s a big blow for Newcastle, who desperately need defensive reinforcements this month. Botman would have been a wonderful acquisition, but the club do have alternative options.

Badiashile is one of them. The Athletic reported yesterday that Newcastle are still keen on the 20-year-old, after the Daily Mail claimed on Sunday that we had opened talks to sign the youngster.

However, that deal might be on hold now.

Newcastle target Benoit Badiashile out for six weeks

The defender started for Monaco on Sunday in their 0-0 draw with Nantes. However, he was forced off in the 43rd minute due to injury.

And it now looks like Badiashile is set for a spell on the sidelines. RMC Sport report that he will miss six weeks of action, meaning a move to Newcastle could be off the cards.

While Badiashile is a young defender and one for the future, we need someone who is ready to have an impact now.

We need signings who can go straight into our starting XI – ideally against Watford on Saturday.

Badiashile was a great alternative to Botman, but things are going against us in the transfer market.

On multiple occasions, we’re hitting hurdles. Lille don’t want to sell Sven Botman. Lucas Digne isn’t keen on a move to the Magpies. Burnley don’t want to sell Chris Wood. And now Badiashile is injured.

When it rains it pours…
