The agent of reported Newcastle United transfer target Jonathan David has revealed that the Canadian will leave Lille in the summer.

The reigning Ligue 1 champions will not want to lose the forward, but Jeunes Footeux say the club would remain attentive if a proposal of at least £47million came in.

It was claimed last month by Le10 Sport that Newcastle were looking at David as a possible January incoming, but that they could face competition from Arsenal.

However, David’s agent Nick Mavromaras, who labelled his client as ‘one of the best strikers in the world’, has told Radio Canada that the 21-year-old will leave for pastures new in the summer.

What’s been said about Jonathan David?

Mavromaras said: “For us, the goal is to finish the season in Lille, but this will be his last season there for several reasons. I think the Premier League is a great option for him.”

David’s agent also claimed that La Liga, Serie A and even a move to Paris Saint Germain were all possible destinations for one of the most coveted young strikers on the football planet.

David perfect for Newcastle in summer 2022

With 12 goals to his name, David is currently Ligue 1’s top goalscorer despite Lille’s early season struggles, which has left last season’s champions in eighth place and 18 points off PSG.

Alongside his 12 Ligue 1 strikes, David’s three Champions League goals were crucial in securing his team’s place in the Champions League last-16, where they will face the holders Chelsea.

A January move to Tyneside for David seems highly unlikely given Lille’s participation in the Champions League. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s focus will be on signing players with Premier League experience in an attempt to avoid relegation.

But given David’s agent’s comments, a summer move gives the Magpies a greater chance of signing the in-form striker.

If David is keen to help launch the new era at Newcastle then the club should consider breaking their transfer record to land one of the most sought after striker’s in Europe.
