Newcastle United are expected to test Manchester United’s desire to keep Donny van de Beek at the club, according to reports.
The 24-year-old is yet to start a Premier League match for Manchester United this season, something that Phil Jones has even managed to do before the Dutchman.
The former Ajax man would have hoped that the appointment of Ralf Rangnick would have boosted his prospects of featuring more frequently, following a lack of playing time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
But the Dutch international has been given just six minutes of Premier League action under the German coach.

He did start the Champions League dead rubber against Young Boys last month, but Manchester United’s number 34 failed to take his chance and gave the ball away which led to the Swiss side’s goal.
However, the Telegraph believe that Newcastle are likely to test Manchester United’s desire to continue to confine van de Beek to the substitute’s bench, even though Rangnick has indicated he wants the Holland international to stay.
Despite getting just two Premier League starts in the calendar year of 2021, Rangnick believes that Manchester United should keep van de Beek ‘until the end of the season’.
Rangnick didn’t assure the midfielder of game time. He could only go as far saying ‘try to get as much game time as he possibly can’.

Although Rangnick has praised van de Beek’s ‘top mentality’ and his work in ‘every’ training session, it doesn’t look like his fortunes at Old Trafford are going to change any time soon.
If he doesn’t start in Manchester United’s FA Cup third round clash against Aston Villa, then it’s going to be very difficult to see where his next appearance is going to come from.
With Paul Pogba expected to return from injury over the next month, van de Beek’s chances of improving on his measly game time will reduce further.
A six-month loan at St James’ Park with a view to a permanent deal could tempt United.

Van de Beek will be eager for regular first team action and if PIF do ramp up their interest, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the midfielder push the move through.
Despite being engulfed in a relegation battle, Van de Beek will want to get back to playing and is likely to relish the challenge of being given a fresh start and the chance to finally prove himself in the Premier League.
