Reported Newcastle United transfer target Dusan Vlahovic equalled a Cristiano Ronaldo record following his latest Fiorentina goal.
The Serbian scored in his sixth straight Serie A game in the 2-2 draw against Sassuolo on Sunday to take his tally for the season to 18 goals and three assists from 20 games, in all competitions.
Only Robert Lewandowski (19) has scored more goals than the 21-year-old, who is Serie A’s top goalscorer with 16 goals to his name, across Europe’s top five leagues.
Following his latest Serie A goal for La Viola, Vlahovic took his goalscoring tally for the Italian top-flight in 2021 to 33 goals.

That meant that Fiorentina’s number nine has matched Cristiano Ronaldo’s record which the Portuguese set in the 2020 calendar year.
Vlahovic will have the opportunity to surpass the great Ronaldo in the last Serie A clash of 2021 when Fiorentina travel to Verona tomorrow.
Football transfer expert Fabrizo Romano recently relayed the comments of Fiorentina’s chief executive Joe Barone that Vlahovic, whose contract expires in 2023, had turned down the club’s latest contract offer, which was reportedly the best salary in Fiorentina history.
Dusan Vlahovic to Newcastle United would be a huge statement

Vlahovic, who made history as the first player in Fiorentina’s history to score more than 30 Serie A goals in a calendar year, is undeniably one of the most sought after players in world football.
The Serbian is scoring goals for fun in a side that didn’t even qualify for Europe. It seems only a matter of time before Vlahovic is making his Champions League debut and announcing himself on the biggest club stage in world football.
Newcastle were linked with Vlahovic last month, with The Sun claiming the club would step up their efforts to sign him.
Although Fiorentina would listen to offers for their prized asset. Fabrizio Romano reported that it will take an offer of at least €70 million/£60 million for them to sell.
There are few players that can match Vlahovic’s current goalscoring form and he would be quite capable of firing Newcastle to Premier League safety all by himself.

But the Magpies’ current forlorn league position doesn’t marry up with Vlahovic’a burgeoning potential. His goals have fired Fiorentina up to sixth place in Serie A, but this is a man who is ready to fire teams to big trophies.
With PIF at the helm on Tyneside, Newcastle could afford and probably make Vlahovic the best paid player on the planet.
However, if Vlahovic were to swap Florence for Newcastle in the New Year, it would be hard to look past his motivation being anything more than for a huge wage increase.
Vlahovic may not secure a move from Fiorentina in the January transfer window and if Eddie Howe has managed to pull off a great escape, Newcastle’s appeal will definitely shine brighter to Vlahovic in the summer, and he could be convinced to become the star man to lead the club into a new ambitious era.
