Newcastle transfer news: Dean Henderson more likely to be loaned out

Newcastle United may have to settle for a loan deal if they’re to sign Dean Henderson this summer.

The Magpies have been linked with a move for the Manchester United goalkeeper, who was also a target in January. A move didn’t materialise then, but he’s being rumoured to move to the North East once again.

The Northern Echo claimed in March that Henderson is Newcastle’s number one goalkeeper target, and that they would pursue a permanent deal. The Mirror have since added that Eddie Howe sees the 25-year-old as the ideal successor to Martin Dubravka.

But Henderson might only be a temporary solution this summer if the Telegraph and the Manchester Evening News are to be believed.

Dean Henderson may only be loaned out by Manchester United

Both the Telegraph and the MEN claim that the England stopper is more likely to be loaned out by the Red Devils before next season.

That’s because of his lengthy contract at Old Trafford. His current deal runs until 2025, with Henderson earning £110,000-a-week.

The Telegraph state that a permanent deal could cost more than £30million, while the MEN believe Newcastle are ‘considering’ a £40million deal.

That would be a big chunk of our transfer budget, with the Magpies very wary of financial fair play right now.

While a permanent deal would be better, it might make more financial sense to bring him in on loan. However, there would ideally be an option to buy him at the end of it.

The MEN claim Henderson would be open to a move to St James’ Park, and that’s no surprise. He’ll have seen the upwards trajectory Newcastle are on, while his chances of replacing David de Gea at Manchester United next season seem slim to non existent.

He’ll have ambitions of going to the World Cup this winter, but needs guaranteed first-team football. If Newcastle can offer him that then this deal could be a goer.

Then again, we’ve already had difficulty when it comes to negotiating with Manchester United this year.
