Newcastle transfer news: Chelsea open to Broja loan, but he’s not

Armando Broja would be a perfect fit for Newcastle United, but it looks like this transfer saga is passing us by.

While we have been linked with the forward, it appears that West Ham are the frontrunners to secure his signature. Broja has returned from Chelsea’s pre-season tour of America due to injury, and talk of a move to the London Stadium has intensified.

It has been reported that the 20-year-old has agreed personal terms with the Hammers. All that is left to do is to agree a deal with Chelsea.

And that’s where the problem lies.

Romano provides update on Broja/Chelsea loan stance

West Ham are trying to sign Broja permanently, and that’s exactly what he wants too. However, Chelsea reportedly feel different according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

“Broja is not interested in a loan deal,” he told Caught Offside.

“Chelsea would be open to a loan but the player no longer wants a loan after last year in Southampton, and before that in Vitesse.

“This is why with West Ham the negotiation is for a £30million permanent deal. The player’s priority is to have guaranteed game time and to feel important in the club, but it is also true that Broja knows that Thomas Tuchel is doing everything to keep him.”

Something’s got to give

If Chelsea are serious about only loaning Broja out then perhaps Newcastle could return to the fold. It was reported that the Magpies want a temporary deal for the striker, with a view to making it permanent.

That would be perfect for Eddie Howe, as it would give us more money to spend on a winger. Newcastle are struggling to land attacking reinforcements that fall within our remaining transfer budget.

This will all depend on who gives in first. At £30million, Newcastle sadly aren’t going to get involved in a permanent bid. But a loan deal would be a different matter.

Something has got to give. Broja either needs to accept that Chelsea only want to loan him because he is under contract there, or Chelsea need to accept that Broja either wants to play regularly at Stamford Bridge or leave for good.

While Broja, Chelsea and West Ham thrash things out, Newcastle remain on the periphery. Sadly for Howe and co, the striker’s desire not to go out on loan looks likely to cost them here.
