Newcastle transfer news: West Ham line up bid for Toon target Armando Broja

Newcastle United could be set to miss out on striker target Armando Broja to West Ham.

The Magpies have been linked with a move for the Chelsea youngster, as Eddie Howe searches for reinforcements up top.

Hugo Ekitike remains heavily linked, while there is speculation surrounding a move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Broja is another player the Magpies are reportedly looking at. It was reported by i News in May that Newcastle have been watching the 20-year-old.

West Ham have also been linked with Broja, and appear set to make their move.

West Ham to bid £30million for Broja

According to Sky Sports, the Hammers are planning a £30million bid for the Albanian striker. They add that he is David Moyes’ top attacking target.

West Ham need to add more depth to their squad for next season ahead of another campaign in Europe. After reaching last season’s Europa League semi-final, this time they’ll be competing in the Europa Conference League.

That’s why they’re looking to sign another striker, and it appears that Broja is the man they want.

If they sign him, he’ll be the second player they’ve landed ahead of Newcastle. The Magpies were linked with Nayef Aguerd, but he’s now completed a big money move to the London Stadium.

Crazy money

The money West Ham are reportedly willing to pay Chelsea for Broja is crazy.

He’s certainly a big talent, but he’s only got one season of top flight football under his belt. That came on loan at Southampton last season, where he scored nine goals in 38 appearances in all competitions.

Broja got six in the Premier League, which is two less than Newcastle’s top scorer Callum Wilson. And that’s despite the fact Broja made 14 more appearances in the top flight last season than our number nine.

Yes, he’s only 20. He still has scope for huge improvement, which is very encouraging considering how good he looked at times.

But £30million is a huge amount of money. At that price, Newcastle surely won’t be challenging the Hammers for his signature.
