Newcastle United want to sign Armando Broja on a loan deal that includes an option to buy him next summer.
That’s according to the Northern Echo, who state that Eddie Howe’s side are keen to bring in the 20-year-old from Chelsea.
Multiple Premier League clubs are chasing Broja, and Newcastle are very much in the mix. West Ham and Everton are also keen, meaning Broja has the pick of some good top flight sides.
Each team offers something different. West Ham would allow him to play in Europe and remain living in London. Everton would allow him to reunite with Frank Lampard, the man who gave him his top flight debut. And Newcastle would allow him to join a club that is very much on the up and has a hugely bright future on the horizon.
It would be great to see Broja become a Magpie this summer, as he would fill a gaping hole in our squad. We need more quality in attack and he would absolutely bring that.
However, Newcastle only want a loan deal this season.
Why Newcastle only want to loan Broja
The Northern Echo add that Newcastle are willing to meet Chelsea’s demands in terms of a loan fee. That highlights their desire to sign the Albania international.
He can be the backup to Callum Wilson we need, and he can also play in wide areas. Considering his age, he also wouldn’t take up a place in the 25-man Premier League squad, which is a bonus.
But the fact he’s already proven in the Premier League is a huge boost. He spent last season on loan at Southampton, where he scored nine goals in all competitions. While he eventually faded, he proved that he has the tools to be a success in the top flight.
Another reason Newcastle are only interested in a loan deal this summer is so they can spend more money elsewhere on someone like Moussa Diaby.
Newcastle want to buy Broja, but not until next year. While he isn’t keen on another temporary switch, the potential lure of a guaranteed move in 12 months might boost our chances.
This remains one to watch.
