Newcastle United could only draw 1-1 with Watford in the Premier League yesterday, as Seko Fofana grabbed headlines once again over in France.
The Magpies missed a golden opportunity to get a second win of the season, conceding a late equaliser after Allan Saint-Maximin had fired Newcastle in front.
Newcastle didn’t push after going ahead, and were made to pay by the Hornets, with Joao Pedro striking late on for the visitors.
Understandably, man Newcastle supporters are now very worried about the club’s fate this season.
Lots believe this really needed to be three points, against a side near Newcastle in the league table.
What is becoming very clear is how poor the midfield is.
Joelinton has a new lease of life, but aside from the Brazilian the quality is low.
Sean Longstaff again had a poor outing yesterday, and Joe Willock – who didn’t get on yesterday, has struggled this season.
Meanwhile, over in France, a midfield player who has been linked with Newcastle continues to shine.
Seko Fofana was linked with Newcastle in November and pretty much ever since, he has been showing why Newcastle have got to move for him.
Yesterday, the Ivory Coast international produced yet another fantastic performance for RC Lens.
And with the scores at 1-1, he popped up in the 95th minute to unleashing a stunning curling effort into the far corner, giving Lens all three points.
That was his eighth goal of the season. That’s a fantastic return from a box-to-box player playing in a team nobody really expected anything from this term.
Newcastle would be fools not to make a big effort to sign Seko Fofana
Newcastle have simply got to flex their financial muscles and sign Seko Fofana before the January transfer window closes.
He is shining week in, week out for Lens. He’s stepping up constantly for the team, and helping them push for a Champions League finish.
He is clearly someone that takes responsibility.
Fofana also scored a very late equalising goal against Lille in the Coupe de France recently. Lens then won the resulting penalty shootout.
There is a serious lack of dynamism in the Newcastle midfield.
Moving for Fofana would be a way to address this issue. It could also hand Joelinton a potential perfect partner in the process.
