Patrik Schick is one of the strikers Newcastle United have been linked with during the January transfer window.
A reported £50 million asking price makes any potential deal with Bayer Leverkusen difficult, especially after spending big on Chris Wood already.
Schick has 18 goals in just 16 Bundesliga games for Bayer Leverkusen this season so it is easy to see why Newcastle would be interested.
In an interview with the Independent, Schick has discussed interest from England, without naming Newcastle specifically.
“Let’s wait and see,” he said, regarding speculation linking him with a Premier League move.
“I’ve changed clubs a lot [six in six years] so I never had time to feel settled. I’m really happy in Leverkusen and with my life in Germany so at this moment I’m not thinking about being transferred somewhere.
“I watch the Premier League and I like England but that doesn’t mean that if I continue like this I’ll play there.”
It all adds up to the idea that it is unlikely Schick is going to be a Newcastle player by the end of the transfer window.
The focus for now seems to be a central defender anyway, before maybe another striker and a creative midfielder before the end of the window.
Leverkusen are third in the Bundesliga and are into the knockout rounds of the Europa League after winning their group, so there is plenty going on in Germany to keep him happy and interested.
