Newcastle star has ‘late complication’ and could miss start of US tour

While pre-season has so far yielded two wins from two for Newcastle United, there’s little doubt it has been frustrating.

The statement signing of Sandro Tonali of course cannot be ignored but Eddie Howe has admitted to feeling some frustration about not having been able to strengthen in the transfer marker any further.

That, coupled with niggles to the likes of Nick Pope, hardly make things ideal for Newcastle.

Though it’s obviously not doom and gloom yet and this team more than deserve our trust as supporters, surely few would argue against the idea that things haven’t quite gone to plan just yet.

Now, another problem has emerged.

Joelinton could miss the start of the US tour for Newcastle

Indeed, Joelinton could be ruled out of the start of the pre-season tour of the United States.

Newcastle are due to play Chelsea, Brighton and Aston Villa as part of the Premier League Summer Series and could already be without Pope.

Now, because of a slight visa issue, £40m star Joelinton is expected to miss the flight across the pond with his teammates and link up with them later.

Speaking to The Northern Echo, Eddie Howe said: “There was a late complication. Jo knew he had to go to London (yesterday) because there were complications with the visa.

“We hope he can join us in America, although he probably won’t come with us initially. Hopefully, he can be over within a couple of days.”

Hardly ideal for Newcastle

A huge part of the Newcastle set-up and now a fully-fledged Brazilian international, it would have been fascinating to see Joelinton line up alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali in America.

The 26-year-old’s story under Howe has been one of a rapid rise and not having him available as the team get used to Tonali’s arrival would be hugely disappointing.

Already heading into the tour with some frustration in regards to transfers, missing a key player would only add to the problems.
