Newcastle staff think their 22-year-old youngster can make England’s Euro 2024 squad

There are multiple Newcastle United players who will be hoping to be part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad at Euro 2024 next summer.

Kieran Trippier is the most likely Newcastle player to be involved, as he is one of England’s most experienced players, and someone who Southgate really trusts.

Nick Pope and Callum Wilson will hope to be involved too, having gone to the World Cup in Qatar with the Three Lions.

Elsewhere, Joe Willock will have his sights set on the tournament in Germany, having been on the brink of a first England callup before his injury at the backend of last season.

But the one Newcastle player who looks like he could force his way into Southgate’s squad right now is Anthony Gordon.

The 22-year-old is enjoying a sensational start to the season, providing four goal contributions so far. He was untouchable during the 8-0 win against Sheffield United, producing his best ever performance in a Newcastle shirt.

Gordon has been in great form ever since winning the Under-21 European Championship over the summer, and will feel like a senior callup is not too far away.

A new report from iNews states that they have been told by a Newcastle insider that going to Euro 2024 is a ‘realistic aim’ for Gordon after his bright start to the season.

They add that Newcastle now believe that Gordon is proof that their transfer strategy works and that it can ensure they stay ahead of the curve compared to their top four rivals.

If Gordon keeps playing like he is, surely Southgate will not be able to ignore him. He is a player who has rose through the age groups at youth level, and that will be something that Southgate no doubt appreciates.

The Newcastle winger was England’s Under-21 hero over the summer, and that should stand him in good stead for a senior callup.

Hopefully that happens ahead of the next international break and Gordon gets the chance to prove he should represent his country at Euro 2024 in Germany.
