With the season Joe Willock is having, the Newcastle United midfielder cannot be far away from an England callup.
That is the view of Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben, who believes that Willock deserves international recognition very soon.
The 23-year-old played the full 90 minutes against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, helping Eddie Howe’s side annihilate their top four rivals. Willock played his part, providing an outrageous assist to setup Alexander Isak for his first goal of the afternoon.
He was compared to Ronaldinho and Luka Modric after the game by teammate Bruno Guimaraes, which is incredibly high praise.
And now Reuben believes that an England debut is right around the corner for the £25million man.

Jamie Reuben believes England will soon be calling
After the game, Reuben took to Twitter to praise Willock. He replied to a tweet from a Newcastle fan that compared the midfielder’s assist for Isak as something you would see from Kevin de Bruyne.
Reuben replied: Got to be close to an England callup soon.”
Joe Willock deserves international recognition for his Newcastle form
Reuben is absolutely right. Willock can’t keep playing this well and continue to be ignored by Gareth Southgate.
The World Cup probably came a little bit too early for him. He was really starting to come into his own around the time that the Three Lions boss had already decided his squad for the tournament in Qatar.
Since then there has only been one international break, and Willock was ignored. The next is at the end of the season, and surely it will now be impossible for Southgate not to callup Newcastle’s number 28.
Everyone is talking about his assist for Isak – an outrageous yet perfectly weighted pass with the outside of his boot. But his overall performance was excellent on Sunday. Willock is full of confidence, and probably should have scored himself during the Magpies’ first half destruction of Spurs.
Like so many players in black and white, he was exceptional against Tottenham, and a first ever callup to the England senior side has to happen at the end of the season.
