According to the Sun, former Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon could be available on a free this summer.
The Venezuelan joined Dalian Yifang in 2019, following Rafa Benitez to the Chinese Super League.
Since then, Benitez has left and is now Everton manager. Meanwhile, Rondon may be on the move as well.
The Sun claim that the 31-year-old could have his contract ripped up due to changes in the CSL.
Rondon spent the start of the year on loan at CSKA Moscow, scoring four goals in 10 games.
However, he could be on the move again, with the Sun stating Benitez could be keen on a reunion at Goodison Park.
But Newcastle must make a move as well, as Rondon is exactly what we need right now.
Newcastle need Salomon Rondon back if he’s available on a free
As it stands, the Magpies are yet to sign a single player this summer. That’s despite the fact our squad is weaker than last season.
One area where we need reinforcements is up front. Yoshinori Muto and Andy Carroll have both left the club.
In terms of out-and-out strikers, Steve Bruce only has Callum Wilson and Dwight Gayle to pick from.
Yes, Joelinton is still here. But we’ve seen over the past couple of years that he’s not a natural goalscorer. Meanwhile, Gayle struggled last season when he was brought into the team.
And with Wilson’s injury problems, the Magpies will be taking a real risk if they don’t bring in an extra striker.
Newcastle need another option up top, and Rondon would be the perfect signing, especially on a free.
He was sensational during his loan spell at St James’ Park. With the number nine on his back, Rondon scored 11 goals in 32 Premier League appearances.
Rondon was adored on Tyneside – another example of falling in love with a loan player who didn’t return. Benitez was a big fan too, and even wanted to sign him permanently in the summer of 2019.
With money tight and options limited, Newcastle must make a move for Rondon if his Dalian Yifang contract is terminated.
