Former Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon has got himself a new club.
The 31-year-old has been unveiled as a CSKA Moscow player, joining the Russian side on loan until the end of the season.
Rondon had been playing in China for Dalian Yifang, but has now followed former boss Rafael Benitez out of the exit door.
While he was only at Newcastle for a year, Rondon had a huge impact at St James’ Park.
He found the net 12 times in all competitions, but he brought more than just goals.
Benitez had a very defensive style during his time as manager, and Rondon was the perfect player up top. He ran the channels, held the ball up and brought others into the game.
Benitez’s departure was a blow, and so was Rondon’s.
Joelinton took his place up top but couldn’t fill the void. Now we’ve got Callum Wilson – although not for the next six to eight weeks.
With Wilson out injured, Steve Bruce will need to find goals from elsewhere. His options are hardly inspiring, but Bruce needs to do something if his side are to avoid getting sucked into a relegation battle.
If only we still had Salomon Rondon…
That’s the sentiment from most Newcatle fans, who have wished Rondon the best following his latest move, all the while wishing he was still a Magpie.
