There are no Monday blues for Eddie Howe, who will now have three important Newcastle United players available for this weekend’s game against Manchester United.

Newcastle welcome Man United to St James’ Park for a repeat of the Carabao Cup final. A win will provide a small amount of revenge for the Toon Army, while it would also be a huge boost in the race to qualify for the Champions League.

Howe will want to put out his strongest team, and he now has a better chance of being able to do just that.

Gordon, Pope and Schar fit for Newcastle against Manchester United

According to the Telegraph, three Toon players will be fit for this Sunday’s game. They believe that Anthony Gordon, Nick Pope and Fabian Schar will be available.

That is a huge boost – particularly the news about Anthony Gordon. He has missed the previous two games with an ankle injury, and it was unclear when he would return. It had been claimed that he would miss three more matches.

However, that will not be the case. He might not start, but the Telegraph believe that Gordon will at least be fit enough to play some part against the Red Devils. The 22-year-old will be eager to prove his worth, especially with Miguel Almiron out injured.

News about Pope and Schar is less surprising, but equally as welcome. Pope withdrew from the England squad ahead of the international break, but the ‘outstanding‘ 30-year-old is going to be fine to face Man United – which he was unable to do at Wembley due to suspension.

He will also be joined in the Newcastle side by Schar – another Toon player who has not been away on international duty. There was concern ahead of the Nottingham Forest game that the 31-year-old was injured, but he was able to play the full 90 minutes at the City Ground.

It is a welcome boost for Howe, who will have had more than two weeks to prepare for this massive game against Manchester United. Now his plans can include Gordon, Pope and Schar.
