Newcastle United players who aren’t going to the World Cup
The headline omission from a Newcastle perspective is, of course, Lewis Hall.
The left-back enjoyed a brilliant season at club level but Hall was surprisingly left out of the England squad.
Nico O’Reilly, the aforementioned Tino Livramento and Djed Spence were all included at left-back ahead of him.
Other omissions Nick Pope, Harvey Barnes (England) and Joelinton (Brazil). Fabian Schar (Switzerland) retired from international football, while Sven Botman has never been capped at senior level by the Netherlands.
Sandro Tonali (Italy) and William Osula (Denmark) are not there because their respective nations did not qualify.
Newcastle have a real chance of boasting a World Cup winner by the time next season rolls around. Indeed, Guimaraes’s Brazil and an England team containing both Burn and Livramento are considered among the favourites to win the tournament.
