Newcastle United might get another chance to sign Marc Guehi next year if Danny Murphy’s prediction is correct.
The Magpies looked into signing a centre-back during the summer transfer window, but Eddie Howe was unable to add one to his squad.
Various players were linked, with Newcastle looking into deals for Edmond Tapsoba and Antonio Silva. There was also talk of a move for Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen, who proved to be too expensive.
So did his centre-back partner at Selhurst Park Marc Guehi, who was also rumoured to be on Newcastle’s radar during the summer transfer window.
Newcastle were linked with a move for Guehi, who attracted a lot of interest from Premier League clubs. However, he remained with Crystal Palace, where he has been for the past two years.

He joined the Eagles in 2021, despite interest from Newcastle back then. The Magpies, then owned by Mike Ashley, missed out, which will no doubt disappoint the recruitment team right now.
Now the 23-year-old, who is in the current England squad, is receiving a huge amount of praise from former player Danny Murphy, who believes that Guehi is already good enough to play in the Champions League.
Danny Murphy expects Marc Guehi to leave Crystal Palace
Murphy has appeared on TalkSPORT, where he predicted that Guehi will leave Crystal Palace for a bigger club in the next 12 months.
“He [Guehi] looks the real deal,” he said.
“I’d be amazed if he wasn’t gone in the summer. He’s a Champions League level player. For me, right now he’d be in the England XI.”

Guehi will cost Newcastle a fortune in 2024
A 23-year-old English defender who is already thriving at Premier League level and has potential to get even better is perfect for Eddie Howe.
However, you have to imagine that Guehi will be out of Newcastle’s price range when 2024 arrives.
He was already valued at £50million this year, and his stock is only rising. That will inevitably lead to Palace demanding even more money for their star centre-back.
While Newcastle probably would have the money available to buy Guehi, you have to imagine that he will be overpriced and force the Magpies to look elsewhere. There is better value abroad, which could be why Guehi does not end up moving to St James’ Park next year.
