Last season Newcastle United were linked with Liverpool striker Divock Origi on loan, as per The Northern Echo. Furthermore, Amanda Staveley believes he would be open to a move to Tyneside (The Northern Echo). Last month Sky Sports reported AC Milan were close to signing the forward.
Newcastle against Liverpool takes place on Saturday, and Origi could have an impact. Recently, he’s proven effective as he often does as a substitute, netting against Everton in a 2-0 win. So you know that Eddie Howe will be keeping a close eye on the Belgian striker.
The Magpies have Chris Wood and the injured Callum Wilson as their striking options. Also, they have Dwight Gayle but he’s not featured much under Howe.

Origi has broken Newcastle hearts before, can he do it again?
Some fans still vividly remember Divock Origi netting a later winner in May 2019 when the Reds won 3-2. It would end up being Rafa Benitez’s last home game in charge of Newcastle United. Additonally, he also found the net in a 3-1 Liverpool win also at St James’ Park last season.
The goal was very controversial as Liverpool midfielder Fabinho dived in front of the lineman to win the free-kick. The set piece was then headed home by Origi. So let’s hope something like that doesn’t this time around.
Now, the situation is very different. The Magpies sit in ninth place in the league and have had a fantastic 2022. Only the Reds have more points than them in this calendar year.

Newcastle vs Liverpool will take place in front of an electric St James’ Park atmosphere. It’s become a real fortress and they haven’t lost there since the 4-0 defeat to Man City last year.
Following the clash with Jurgen Klopp’s side, they’ll face Man City away. So these next two fixtures will be a hard run for the Toon. But under Howe, the confidence is at an all-time high.
