Newcastle legend Alan Shearer’s brilliant Twitter response to Manchester United fan

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has named his Premier League Team of the Week, much to the annoyance of Manchester United fans.

Following the conclusion of Matchweek 14, the pundit has released his team for the division’s official website, and it features a lot of Toon players.

After the 4-0 win over Aston Villa, Shearer included Kieran Trippier, Miguel Almiron, Joelinton and Callum Wilson in his side. He also named Eddie Howe as the manager.

Given how well Newcastle did at the weekend, it’s hard to argue with Shearer’s decision.

However, Manchester United fans on social media are not happy with the Match of the Day pundit. That’s because he didn’t pick a single player from Erik ten Hag’s team that beat West Ham on Sunday.

The Red Devils picked up a vital three points at Old Trafford, with valiant defensive displays coming from the likes of Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Diogo Dalot.

But they were all ignored by Shearer. The ex-striker opted to pick William Saliba and Pervis Estupinan alongside Trippier at the back instead, who was praised by Toon co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi after the game.

Shearer decision didn’t go down well with Man United fan

After unveiling his team on Twitter, one Manchester United fan replied with a message of disappointment.

He wrote: “Not a single United defender in there when arguably all of them should be.”

Shearer’s response was brilliant, pointing out that there is a United defender in his team. He replied: “Trippier?”

This is in reference to the fact that Manchester United aren’t actually the only team called ‘United’. It’s a real bugbear for Toon fans, who are quick to remind people that Newcastle are United too.

As it stands, the Magpies are actually the top United in England. Howe’s side are fourth in the league, one point above Man United.

And when it comes to Shearer’s TOTW, he certainly had a lot of good options to pick from. There were some stellar performances in the Premier League.

While some Man United defenders did play well, it wasn’t enough to get in Shearer’s team. That’s left the entitled Man United supporters furious, who are having to get used to not getting things their own way.
