As ever, Newcastle United continue to be linked with a number of players ahead of the January transfer window.

While Newcastle are still thought to be dealing with FFP limitations, it doesn’t stop the proverbial transfer rumour mill from churning now we are only days out from the January window.

One of the major names linked with the club is Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Out of the picture at the Etihad Stadium to the extent where Pep Guardiola has even apologised to the England international, he is reportedly open to the idea of a move.

Still, it seems Newcastle are yet to make their minds up.

Kalvin Phillips transfer news: Juventus and Newcastle latest

Indeed, according to journalist Ben Jacobs on X (formerly Twitter), Juventus are the most active club in pursuit of the 28-year-old.

The Italian giants, like Newcastle, have been strongly linked with the former Leeds midfielder in the build-up to New Year sales.

Jacobs adds that the Magpies could yet try and make a late move to try and sign Phillips, albeit there is not thought to be any “internal clarity” as to their plans for him just yet.

The journalist also suggests it is expected to be a relatively quiet window at St James’ Park.

Kalvin Phillips to Newcastle: Transfer now seems unlikely

There is little shame about not making things work at City, particularly with the excellent Rodri playing in the same position.

They did, after all, see enough in his performances at Leeds to pay £42m to sign him.

Still, the fact Newcastle have seemingly not made up their minds just yet hardly suggests Phillips is seen as an absolute priority, even if the signing of a new midfielder is said to be on the agenda.

Having reportedly allowed Juve to steal a march, Newcastle might not be so keen on Phillips after all.
