Newcastle United are back in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League – and that is largely down to Alexander Isak.

Newcastle have won back-to-back Premier League games for the first time since the games that sandwiched the World Cup, and it was made possible by Isak‘s goals.

The striker was given the chance to start against Wolves, and he took it with both hands. He produced a brilliant performance, netting a header in the first half.

The 23-year-old then retained his place in the side to face Nottingham Forest, where he was even better. He was the star at the City Ground, scoring a brace to put another three points on the board.

Newcastle are still fifth, but are just two points behind fourth-place Tottenham Hotspur and only three behind Manchester United in third.

Eddie Howe’s side are now back in the conversation to finish in the top four, and that is massively down to the progress that Isak has made.

Alexander Isak is getting better and better

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle are delighted behind the scenes about the progress Isak has made over the past few weeks.

He has massively raised his game, and suddenly looks like an elite Premier League forward.

For all the injuries, Isak has actually had a great start to life as a Newcastle United player. He looked exciting in the early days, when he was still settling into life in England. Then he was struck by a thigh problem.

But the £63million man now looks to be fully fit, and completely adapted to Premier League life. He is not fazed by the physicality, nor is he only scoring goals.

Isak’s overall level of performance is massively encouraging, as he shows he can do more than hit the back of the net. He is stretching defences, leading the press, creating chances and bringing others into the game.

The Swede looks like the complete forward and is only going to get better in the coming months and years. But his sharp upturn in fortunes has been a huge boost for Newcastle, and the club are ecstatic about his progress.

The worrying thing for our Premier League rivals is that the best is yet to come…
