Newcastle fans deliver message to the rest of the Premier League during Champions League loss

Newcastle United fans travelled in their thousands to Germany, as Eddie Howe’s side were beaten 2-0 by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

After their trip to Italy saw Newcastle earn a valiant point against AC Milan, the Toon Army are now preparing to head back from Germany with nothing.

The Magpies tried their hardest, but came unstuck against Borussia Dortmund for the second time this season. The Bundesliga giants have done the double over us, following up their 1-0 victory at St James’ Park with a 2-0 win on their own turf.

It means that Newcastle’s Champions League hopes are hanging by a thread, with Howe’s side desperately needing to get a result away to Paris Saint-Germain later this month. That will be extremely difficult, and could well be our final away trip in the Champions League this season.

But the Toon Army will head to Paris in fine spirits, just like they did this week. So many Newcastle fans went to Germany, even though most of them didn’t have a ticket for the game.

Those that did witnessed a depleted Newcastle side lose 2-0, but at least some of them didn’t have to pay an absolute fortune for their tickets.

Newcastle fans thank Borussia Dortmund ahead of Champions League clash

A portion of the tickets sold to Newcastle fans for the Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund were incredibly cheap. Standing tickets at Signal Iduna Park were available for as little as £16.50.

That is a staggering price given the current economic climate, the greed of football and calibre of game, and it led to a banner in the away end during Newcastle’s Champions League trip to Germany.

Toon fans unveiled two banners before the game. One read ‘Change from £20 – thank you BVB’ while a second read ‘Twenty’s plenty’.

That should serve as a message to Newcastle’s Premier League rivals, as well as clubs all over the globe. Dortmund have got their pricing spot on, and everyone else should take note – including the Magpies.
