Newcastle United will face Chelsea in the quarter final of the Carabao Cup, as Eddie Howe looks to go one further than last season in the competition.
It has been impressive Carabao Cup run so far, knocking out both Manchester City and Manchester United. The win on Wednesday night over Man United was incredible, with the Magpies battering them 3-0 in their own backyard.
And they did it with a bunch of fringe players and youngsters, one of which looks set to miss the quarter final.
Lewis Hall has impressed in the Carabao Cup
Lewis Hall scored Newcastle’s second goal at Old Trafford. It was a wonderfully controlled volley by the 19-year-old, and a spectacular way to score his first ever professional goal.
The teenager played very well, on what was just his second start for the Magpies, with the other also coming in the Carabao Cup.

However, Newcastle’s next opponents in the competition mean that Hall will not receive a hat-trick of League Cup starts in black and white.
That is because we are playing Chelsea, who Hall is currently on loan from. While he is going to join Newcastle permanently in the summer, it is only a temporary deal right now which means he is ineligible to play against his parent club.
The only way he could play is if Chelsea give Newcastle permission, and the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope has provided an update on the situation.
Hall not expected to play for Newcastle against Chelsea
Craig Hope has took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to provide Newcastle’s stance on the Hall/Carabao Cup situation.
He wrote: “Further to this, I’m told Newcastle don’t expect Lewis Hall to be able to play at Chelsea in the quarter-final.”
So Newcastle do not expect Hall to be involved at Stamford Bridge, which is a great shame. However, it is not surprising.
While he will become a permanent Newcastle player next year, he technically still belongs to Chelsea, and it would be crazy of them to give the Magpies a hand in such a high stakes game.
It means someone else will have to play left-back at Stamford Bridge next month. That honour will either go to Dan Burn or Matt Targett, providing the 28-year-old is back from injury.
For Hall, he will hope that he soon gets a chance to start for Newcastle in the Premier League, with his Carabao Cup exploits set to be put on hold.
