Eddie Howe has stated there will be no Christmas party at Newcastle United this year.
The Magpies are on a high after last week’s win over Burnley, their first of the season and subsequently first since the club’s shock takeover in October.
The mood around the club is incredible right now. There is a real sense of belief, despite being embroiled in a relegation battle.
Players and fans celebrated like mad after the win against Sean Dyche’s side, but Howe has stated there’ll be no festive party for his team.
“I don’t think this moment is the time for the players to be having a Christmas party,” Howe told the Northern Echo.
“We have had a gathering this week of staff and players, a meal together.
“But I don’t think with one, the fixture congestion, two, COVID and three, our league position, it is the time for that [a Christmas party].”

So the manager is cancelling Christmas. It’s a bit like what Boris Johnson did last year, only Howe is more likely to stay true to his word.
The national media has been dominated by talk of alleged Christmas parties from the Conservative party while the country was in a winter lockdown.
The Prime Minister’s press secretary Allegra Stratton has resigned after a video obtained by ITV showed her joking about the alleged gathering.
But there’ll be no party for the Newcastle United players. And rightly so, really.
Newcastle United still have a huge job on their hands. While they finally got their first win, their Premier League status is still under massive threat.
Combine that with the threat of COVID, and Newcastle have a busy period on the horizon where they need to put more points on the board.
They can party at the end of the season when hopefully they’ve managed to avoid relegation to the Championship.
