The Sports Direct signs are set to be removed from St James’ Park.
Since the Saudi-backed takeover went through, Newcastle fans have been desperate for the advertising boards to disappear.
We’ve seen Mike Ashley leave. Steve Bruce went. Then it was Lee Charnley. All that remains is the Sports Direct signs – the final reminder of the Ashley era.
The tacky red and blue logos have been splashed across St James’ Park for years, making a beautiful stadium something of an eyesore. There’s the two big logos on the top of the East Stand and a plethora of smaller signs all around the ground.

There was even a huge painted logo on the top of the Gallowgate. It truly was the Sports Direct Arena in everything but name.
The stadium was used by Ashley as a cheap way to advertise his brand. It angered Toon fans, and stifled the club’s revenue too.
But now the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder states that the signs are going.
This news has Toon fans absolutely buzzing. The mood around the club is incredible right now, especially after Saturday’s win over Burnley.
It was our first three points of the season, and it looks like it’ll be the final game at SJP where fans have to look at those horrible Sports Direct signs.

Amanda Staveley recently spoke about her desire to see the signs removed from St James’ Park, and now she is getting her wish.
Staveley, the rest of the consortium and the fans will be keen to see the first picture of the ground without those horrendous signs. But for now, they’re celebrating another huge piece of news coming out of the club.
