Eddie Howe is in the middle of his most challenging season as Newcastle United manager.

He has been in charge at St James’ Park since November 2021, and has achieved so much on Tyneside.

The early stages were tough, but Eddie Howe eventually guided Newcastle United to safety in his first season with ease.

His first full season was incredible. The Magpies made it to Wembley for the Carabao Cup final, while they also qualified for the Champions League.

Full season number two has been just as memorable thanks to Champions League nights like the one against PSG, but it has been much more challenging.

There has been a noticeable drop off from Newcastle, with Howe’s squad decimated by injuries. That has resulted in a few onlookers questioning his position at St James’ Park, but the Toon Army continue to back their manager.

And that is the feeling behind the scenes too.

Eddie Howe is safe as Newcastle United manager

The Telegraph have provided an update on Eddie Howe’s future at the club, and they have been told by ‘senior sources’ that he is currently under no pressure.

They state that his job is safe, and that is good to hear. So it should be, as getting rid of Howe would be a kneejerk reaction that fails to look at the bigger picture.

This has been a tough season, and it has resulted in Howe being a victim of his own success. After what he achieved last season, everyone expects you to do it again.

But that was always going to be tough. And it has been even tougher due to our injury woes.

But this is a long-term project, and it was not always going to be straightforward. After so many highs after arriving, there had to be a dip under Howe. That has been the case since the back end of 2023, and he is now trying to find a way to get back to the highs.

The clearest route appears to be the FA Cup. Newcastle United face Blackburn Rovers tonight, where the winner will advance to the quarter finals. In a campaign filled with massive fixtures, it is the Magpies’ biggest game of the season.
