Newcastle already know how much Atletico Madrid want for Joao Felix

If Newcastle United want to sign Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid, they are going to have to pay a huge amount of money.

The 23-year-old was linked with the Magpies recently, with FootballTransfers claiming that Eddie Howe’s side could make a move for the Portuguese forward.

Now a report from the Mirror claims that his agent Jorge Mendes will speak to Newcastle, and other clubs, about signing his client in the new year.

Felix joined Atletico in 2019 when he looked like he would become the next great superstar in Europe. That is why the La Liga side paid £113million to sign him from Benfica.

But his time in the Spanish capital is not going to plan, and now a rift with manager Diego Simeone could see him leave the Metropolitano Stadium in 2023.

Unsurprisingly, it has led to links with Newcastle. That was always going to be the case. It is the way things go since the change of ownership at St James’ Park. As soon as a player is rumoured to be leaving his current employer, speculation over a move to Newcastle begins.

But Felix does largely fit the bill of what Amanda Staveley and co want on Tyneside. They are looking for players who can take Newcastle to the next and develop alongside the club. That is why they bought the likes of Alexander Isak, Sven Botman and Bruno Guimaraes.

At 23, Felix fits the same mould. However, his price tag could be what stops him swapping Madrid for Newcastle.

How much Atletico Madrid want for Joao Felix

With rumours beginning to swirl regarding Felix’s future, a recent report from AS has claimed how much it could cost to sign the Portugal international.

They reported less than two weeks that Atletico will sell Felix if they receive a total package worth £86million. AS also stated that Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are interested.

While Newcastle might have the finances to compete with those sides thanks to PIF’s wealth, there is no way that Dan Ashworth will spend that much money on one player – especially not in January.

It has already been claimed that Newcastle will not splash out on a major arrival next month. It therefore comes as a surprise that we would be linked with Felix given how much he will cost.

The only way a deal could be reached next month was if he joined on loan with a view to a permanent deal. But £86million is a huge figure for Newcastle right now, eclipsing the £63million they spent on Alexander Isak in August.

Felix is a sensational player with a lot of potential, and could be a great fit at St James’ Park. But that £86million figure makes any move to the North East incredibly unlikely.
