Newcastle United have the potential to turn the ‘big six’ into the ‘big even’.
That’s the view of new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, who recently completed a £4.25billion deal to buy the Blues.
The future of Chelsea had been up in the air after Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government. This led to a huge race against time for someone to buy the club, with the clock ticking on their existence.
Boehly was selected as the preferred bidder, and is now the owner of one of the biggest clubs in England.

It was the most expensive takeover in the history of the game – worth a lot more than the Newcastle deal from 2021.
PIF and co paid £305million for the Magpies, and the new owners have ambitions of competing at the top of the Premier League.
What Todd Boehly said about Newcastle
Chelsea’s new owner Boehly has spoke at a private equity conference (how lavish) in Berlin, and his quotes have been reported by the Telegraph.
The American investor spoke about Newcastle, and he expects them to be challenging soon given their new influx of cash.

“The big six will become the big seven with the Saudi deal for Newcastle,” he said.
“There is going to be opportunity for everyone to win.”
No one knows how long it will take Newcastle to make it a ‘big seven’
The famous ‘big six’ are hardly well-liked by the other teams in the Premier League. It was the ‘big six’ who wanted to join the breakaway European Super League last year, lest we forget.
And it’s the ‘big six’ who are most threatened by Newcastle’s new standing in world football. We pose a threat to their place at the top, which is why they were so against the takeover going through.
But it has gone through now, and no one can stop the Magpies becoming a global force.

However, it’s hard to tell how long it will take the club to truly establish themselves as one of the countries elite clubs. Our position in the transfer window has certainly changed, with the club targeting a much higher calibre of players.
That doesn’t guarantee success though, as we can’t simply buy our way to the top like others have done in the past.
While we have the wealth to be at the top of the pile, it could be years before we break into Europe or make the ‘big six’ a ‘big seven’.
But Chelsea’s new owner is aware of the threat we suddenly pose, and will be keen to keep Newcastle below his latest investment.
