Miguel Almiron is absolutely buzzing after official Newcastle announcement

Miguel Almiron has won Newcastle United’s goal of the season award for his first goal against Fulham back in October.

The Paraguayan was confirmed as the winner by the club on Monday, with Miggy beating out strikes from Jacob Murphy and Allan Saint-Maximin, which came second and third respectively. He was up against Murphy’s goal away to Everton, which was all about the run from Alexander Isak, and Allan Saint-Maximin’s beautiful volley in a 1-1 draw with Wolves, plus many more.

But Almiron has won the award with a volley of his own, coming out on top with 28% of the vote from Toon fans.

It is a worthy winner – his best moment during an incredible season. Almiron scored 11 goals, many of which were absolutely brilliant – the winner against Tottenham, his curlers versus Everton and Aston Villa, the glorious team goal away to Leicester on Boxing Day. But his volley against Fulham was the pick of the lot.

He won the Premier League goal of the month award for it back in October, and now it has been named the best Newcastle goal of the 2022/23 campaign. That is some achievement, as Eddie Howe’s side scored some ridiculous goals on route to qualifying for the Champions League.

But this was the pick of the lot. Almiron combined brilliantly with Bruno Guimaraes, who lofted a perfectly weighted pass into the path of the 29-year-old. Miggy then executed a volley with the outside of his boot into the far corner and beyond a helpless Bernd Leno. It blew away Alan Shearer, who could not believe what he had just witnessed.

It was probably the best goal of Almiron’s career, and now he has reacted to winning Newcastle’s end of season award.

Almiron thanks fans after Newcastle accolade

The winger has spoke to the club’s official website after winning Newcastle’s goal of the season award.

“I want to thank all the fans who voted for my goal,” Almiron said.

“When the fans choose, it’s always more special.

“I said at the time that it is one of the best goals I have scored, especially because it was an important victory in one of the best leagues in the world, and because although the finish was good, Bruno’s pass was also perfect.”
