The strange thing about measuring assists as a metric is that its not always reflective of a player’s quality.
Given it’s a measurement without much context, a player could feasibly have passed their teammate the ball 30 yards from goal before they unleased an absolute world class strike from range.
Still, there are some assists that, in truth, prove much better than the goal itself.

Take Alexander Isak for example.
During Thursday night’s 4-1 win over Everton, the Swedish international took it upon himself to dribble past the Toffees’ whole defence before squaring for Jacob Murphy to tap in.
Indeed, even that description fails to do it justice.
The balance, close control and ability to find space that appears between only heartbeats it takes to produce a moment of that quality is simply mind-blowing.
Jacob Murphy refuses to take credit for the goal
Unsurprisingly, Murphy refused to take credit for the goal.
While it was an important one in that it stopped Everton in their tracks following Dwight McNeil’s goal only minutes before, the 28-year-old knew exactly who to thank.
Rather than celebrate himself, as a player not exactly guaranteed to start or even stay at Newcastle this summer would be entitled to do, Murphy instead made sure the traveling support got their moment to serenade Isak.
The super Swede has so much to his game
After the win over Nottingham Forest last month, Joe Willock compared the £60m man to a certain Thierry Henry.
Though such comparison might be somewhat premature, watching moments of quality like that makes it hard to ignore.
That’s now eleven goal contributions for the 23-year-old in just 16 Premier League games. Able to score crucial goals as well as making them for others, it’s crazy to think what haul Isak might be on had he not seen his season disrupted by injury.
