Mehrdad Ghodoussi sends reply to Harvey Barnes after he scored Newcastle’s winner vs Wolves

Harvey Barnes stole the headlines with a superb curling effort that helped Newcastle United to a 2-1 win over Wolves.

The 26-year-old started on the bench with Eddie Howe choosing to start Jacob Murphy alongside Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak up front.

However, after a turgid start which saw Newcastle trail to Mario Lemina’s first-half goal, Howe made a triple change at the break.

Harvey Barnes replaced Isak, who was struggling with an injury to his eye, and added some much-needed energy to a struggling Newcastle side.

Fabian Schar drew Newcastle level after his deflected strike looped in, and just five minutes later Barnes put the visitors into the lead with a brilliant curling effort.

Mehrdad Ghodoussi replies to Harvey Barnes

Barnes took to social media after Newcastle’s comeback, and he received a reply from former club co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi.

Ghodoussi, the husband of Amanda Staveley, was involved in Newcastle’s 2021 takeover but recently left the club after three years.

Staveley and Ghodoussi insisted they would “remain fans for life” after selling their stake in the club, and his message to Barnes suggests they are living up to that promise.

Barnes posted on Instagram: “Great result on the road! You were with us until the end @nufc”

He received replies from the likes of Alan Shearer and Callum Wilson, as well as Ghodoussi, who showed his appreciation with two emojis.

Harvey Barnes must start for Newcastle United

Barnes was certainly feeling the love on social media after his stunning winner against Wolves, and now Howe must respond by giving him the starting spot he deserves.

Newcastle looked far more dangerous in the second half with Barnes and Joe Willock on the pitch.

The Magpies cannot afford another poor start, and with a trip to Fulham on the horizon, Barnes deserves his spot in the starting lineup.

If Howe can find a way of fitting Barnes and Gordon into the same side – preferably either side of Isak – then Newcastle’s front three should start to tick.
