Manchester United could now make another swoop on Newcastle after Dan Ashworth move

Newcastle United have already lost Dan Ashworth to Manchester United.

Quite how much of a blow that is, is obviously up for debate.

While Newcastle would surely never have planned for a sporting director they pursued for so long to leave so quickly, there is a reportedly a feeling at St James’ Park that they are in fact in a better place with the appointment of his successor in Paul Mitchell.

Still, there have been some teething problems for Mitchell at the club, albeit there are now claims he and Eddie Howe are building a more coherent working relationship.

Howe’s future is another interesting subplot at Newcastle.

Consistently linked with the England national job, more recent reports from The Sun have tipped him for a move to Tottenham should Amanda Staveley and her consortium buy a stake in the London club.

Now, however, another club have been linked with a move for Howe.

Manchester United consider move for Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe

According to GIVEMESPORT, Howe could in fact become a candidate for the managerial job at Old Trafford only months after Ashworth moved there too.

It is claimed that his name has been talked about by members of the hierarchy at the Manchester giants, with some of those enthused by Howe’s CV.

Erik ten Hag of course remains in his post but has consistently been tipped to leave the club after a difficult start to the season.

Newcastle looking for around £5million for Eddie Howe

The same outlet recently suggested that Newcastle would allow Howe to speak to the Football Association (FA) should they come in with a compensation package of around £5million.

It’s not clear if they would demand the same kind of fee should a direct Premier League rival come in for their manager of course but it is worth considering.

There is obviously no suggestion that anyone at Newcastle wants Howe to leave and while performances haven’t been great this season, results have broadly been good.

For now, Howe looks under little pressure – at least externally.
