Newcastle United are well represented in the England set-up these days.
While Kieran Trippier has retired from international football and Callum Wilson’s time in a Three Lions shirt looks to be over, Newcastle still have players involved.
Indeed, Anthony Gordon may not have played much part at Euro 2024 but continues to be selected and has frequently started for his country in the early part of the post-Gareth Southgate era.
Nick Pope has also been back in the set-up after a brief time away from it, while Tino Livramento is starting to make his way into the senior England squad.
Excitingly, pundit Joe Cole believes another “intelligent” Newcastle player could soon be in line for a call-up.
Such has been his impressive form of late, Lewis Hall has been backed to make the step up.

Lewis Hall now backed to make England squad after Newcastle form
Speaking following Saturday’s Premier League victory over Arsenal in which Hall was praised by the likes of Alan Shearer, Cole told TNT Sports at 2.44pm GMT: “He is making a brilliant case, mainly because of his performances but also because Luke Shaw has been injured and [Ben] Chilwell hasn’t kept himself as fit as he would like.
“That opens up the conversation, but he is such an intelligent and well-mannered and respectful boy. He knows that he just needs to carry on playing like he did today.”
Lewis Hall could be set for a leading role for England
Hall still has things to work on, though Howe was always predicting a very bright future for the player despite a difficult start to life on Tyneside.
England, of course, lack options at left-back. Trippier was tried there at the Euros given Luke Shaw’s constant battle to stay fit, while Ben Chilwell suffers from similar fitness issues.
With that in mind, it’s not as if England are blessed with strength in depth in that particular area.
Incoming Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel, after all, was the man who gave Hall his professional debut when the German was in charge of Chelsea back in 2022.
The omens certainly look promising for Hall, whether he’s in the squad for England’s games this month or not…
