Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall has emerged as one of the most talented young stars in the Premier League this season.
The 20-year-old initially joined the Magpies on loan from Chelsea in the 2023 summer transfer window, but Lewis Hall made his move permanent in a £28m deal this summer.
Lewis Hall had to accept that he was not a regular starter last season as he settled in under Eddie Howe.
He made 22 appearances across all competitions in 2023/24 for a total of 967 minutes – the majority of which came towards the end of the campaign.
However, Hall has improved massively after one year, and he has featured in all of Newcastle’s Premier League games so far with a total of 546 minutes across all competitions – already more than half of his minutes from last season.
There was a feeling that Hall’s transfer was criticised by Paul Mitchell after he arrived as sporting director, but the young left-back is quickly starting to justify his transfer fee.

Lewis Hall features in Under-21 Team of the Season
Hall has been one of Newcastle’s best performers this season, and he is now starting to get the credit he deserves.
Club legend Alan Shearer praised Hall’s “really solid” display against Manchester City this season, and Howe has also predicted a “very bright future” for the young defender.
Hall’s performances have now earned him a spot in WhoScored‘s Under-21 Team of the Season which highlights the brightest young players in the Premier League.
Hall has made the team in the left-back spot with an average performance rating of 6.69 in the Premier League this season.
He is joined by former Newcastle winger Yankuba Minteh, who has made the team after averaging a rating of 6.72 at new club Brighton this season.
Newcastle sold Minteh to Brighton this summer for £30m in the club’s push to avoid breaking the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Selling Yankuba Minteh may be a huge mistake
Selling Minteh was a mistake, but ultimately, it was a decision that was taken out of Newcastle’s hands because of the PSR regulations.
Newcastle fans have now been left wondering ‘what if’ Minteh stayed after witnessing his strong start with Brighton.
Newcastle want to sign a right-sided winger in January which makes it more frustrating that one of the brightest young talents at the club had to be sold.
The same can be said for Elliot Anderson, who was sold to Nottingham Forest to help evade PSR punishment.
Newcastle are now lacking a creative midfielder and Anderson would have fit the bill perfectly. Unfortunately, it seems Newcastle will now have to dip into the market to replace the young duo.
