After a terrible summer transfer window, Eddie Howe must work with what he has got at Newcastle United.

There were no major signings at St James’ Park, with Paul Mitchell failing to improve Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United squad.

That makes Howe’s job tougher, and puts more pressure on him to get even more out of the players he has already got.

Luckily, Eddie Howe is a ‘super impressive’ coach, and will be able to keep improving the players he is already working with.

Lewis Hall impresses for England Under-21s

One of those players who has improved is Lewis Hall.

He has kicked on massively since his £28million arrival from Chelsea, and is now a completely different player. After a slow start, the 20-year-old has seriously shown signs that he can reach his potential on Tyneside.

Hall showed that in an England shirt on Monday night, grabbing two assists during the Under-21s’ 4-1 win over Austria.

Journalist Henry Winter praised Hall for his potential, while Newcastle fans were impressed with what they saw from the youngster.

Newcastle United defender wants to keep getting better

It was a great performance from Hall, who still has ambitions of getting better and better under the guidance of Eddie Howe and his coaching staff.

After the win over Austria, Hall spoke to Local TV Tyne & Wear about his development as a Newcastle United player.

“I want to be able to do both sides of the game,” he said.

“I’ve always had the attacking quality, in my opinion, which I can still improve on.

“But defensively I’m trying to improve, and I feel like I have done that massively. I think there’s still a lot more improvement to be done defensively, and offensively as well.

“[I need to] keep working hard on the training pitch. The manager is really good with me, all of his assistants as well at Newcastle. They work really hard to improve not just me but the whole team.

“Hopefully I can get myself back into the team.”

Lewis Hall has Eddie Howe’s trust at Newcastle now

As Hall says, he has improved massively since his arrival at Newcastle United in the summer of 2023.

When he first arrived, it was clear that he was not trusted. Opportunities were few and far between, with Hall often watching on from the bench – even during the Magpies’ injury crisis.

But things started to change during the final few months of the season, with Hall starting to get chances. He took them in a big way, and ended the campaign strongly.

Now it is a new season, and Hall has featured in all four of Newcastle’s games so far, starting two of them. He is dovetailing nicely with Lloyd Kelly at left-back, while Howe has shown a greater willingness to play him and use him as a game-changer in the second half when he is not starting.

There is still improvements that Hall can make, but that is no surprise. After all, he is only 20-years-old.

But he is very much on the right path, and this is shaping up to be a much stronger season in black and white for Lewis Hall.
