Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer is the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer, but Harry Kane was catching him up before his move to Bayern Munich.

That is why Alan Shearer was so delighted to see Harry Kane call time on his Premier League career and leave Tottenham Hotspur to sign for Bayern Munich. The England captain has continued to shine in Germany, boasting 37 goals in all competitions from 35 games.

Harry Kane has been absolutely relentless since his transfer, already equalling Shearer’s best ever tally in all competitions. Two seasons in a row, he netted 37 goals in all competitions for Blackburn Rovers.

They are both elite goalscorers, but who is the best in front of goal? Well, Les Ferdinand is well placed to provide his verdict.

He was Shearer’s strike partner for Newcastle United and England, and they had an incredible understanding. Meanwhile, he previously worked as a coach at Tottenham when Kane was there.

Les Ferdinand says Harry Kane is a better finisher than Alan Shearer

And now he has given his opinion on which player was the best finisher between Shearer and Kane on the latest episode of the Stick To Football podcast.

“At times I would take a shooting session after training and there was Eriksen, there was Harry Kane and Adebayor would join in,” he said.

“There was a few of them. The level of finishing was just incredible. And he was always in there.

“Right foot and left foot as well, and that’s where I would probably put him above Alan in terms of finishing, in terms of his right foot is as devastating as his left foot. Alan is great on his right foot, on his left he’ll get it done, but H is very, very competent on his left side.”

Alan Shearer would back himself against Kane

Considering how much faith he has in his own ability, Shearer would no doubt back his finishing ability up against Kane’s!

But Kane is a world class player, as Newcastle United found out so many times during his Tottenham days. He played against the Magpies 17 times in all competitions, scoring 10 goals.

While Shearer is happy to see the back of Kane to preserve his Premier League record, Newcastle are happy he has gone so that their goal difference does not take a hammering. Even in that 6-1 win for Newcastle last season, he was the one to find the net for Spurs. And that was a great finish.

But Shearer was a world class finisher too, which is why he is the Premier League’s and Newcastle United’s record goalscorer.
