Joelinton was the official Premier League Player of the Match after Newcastle United beat Tottenham Hotspur 6-1, but Alan Shearer believes the award should have gone to someone else.
Shearer has named his team of the week following the conclusion of this weekend’s fixtures, and his side includes four players from the Newcastle team that dismantled Spurs. He has also chosen Eddie Howe as his manager.
It is not difficult to guess which four players Shearer picked. He has gone with Jacob Murphy, Joelinton, Joe Willock and Alexander Isak.
Every Newcastle player did well, but those four really were the star attractions. Each had individual moments to shine, and have hogged the headlines ever since the final whistle.
Murphy’s brace was brilliant, the Willock assist was outrageous, Joelinton was majestic, but Shearer believes that Isak was actually the best player on the pitch on Sunday.

Shearer thinks Isak was Newcastle’s man of the match against Spurs
Isak scored a brace against Tottenham, taking his tally to 10 Premier League goals. He has hit double figures in his first season, which is really impressive considering the injury woes he has endured.
But the 23-year-old has really made up for lost time, and was lethal in front of goal on Sunday. He took both goals brilliantly, showing class and composure to finish past Hugo Lloris. The first was all about Willock’s assist, while the second was a wonderful team move that Isak believed was ‘beautiful‘.
However, Isak’s performance was not just about his goals. In Shearer’s eyes, he was the star attraction.
He wrote for the Premier League’s official website: “Ran the show and was the best player on the pitch. Another brilliant brace.”
Personally, I believe Joelinton deserved it. He set up the first, scored the second in sensational fashion then dominated the midfield in the second half.
But Isak has a strong case too, leading the line to perfection. He did it all on Sunday. He stretched the defence with his pace in behind, while he also dropped off and picked up possession with his back to goal.
Of course, Isak’s two goals were fantastic, but he did more than just score against Spurs. It was a real team performance from Howe’s side, and Shearer believes the Sweden international was the star attraction.
