Juventus fans have some choice words for Lloyd Kelly after his first game since leaving Newcastle United

Lloyd Kelly made his debut for Juventus after leaving Newcastle United on Friday night.

The 26-year-old made the move to Italy after he became restless with his lack of minutes at Newcastle United.

Eddie Howe said Kelly was an ‘integral’ part of Newcastle’s squad and was reluctant to let him leave. Before joining Juventus, he had appeared in Newcastle’s defeat to Fulham just a day prior.

Italian media slammed Kelly for his debut against Como, a 45-minute stint off the bench where he helped his new side fight back from a goal down to win 2-1 and move up to fourth in Serie A.

Despite the shaky start, Juventus are still highly likely to sign him at the end of the season which will see Newcastle bag an extra £17m from the deal – a boost to their PSR battle and summer transfer budget.

As Kelly continues to settle into life abroad, Juventus fans took to social media to comment on his debut.

Juventus fans slam Lloyd Kelly on social media

Kelly said it ‘felt good’ to play for Juventus after making his debut on Friday night – he joins several other Englishmen in the league including Tammy Abraham, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Newcastle target Fikayo Tomori.

Just a few minutes after coming on, Juventus fans had to vent their frustration on X.

“In five minutes I think it’s clear why Kelly didn’t play for Newcastle, right?” one fan said. While another added: “Almost 30M spent on Kelly. I am sickened by Giuntoli’s actions.”

This fan highlighted the difference between the Premier League and Serie A, they said: “But did anyone really think that Kelly was better than Danilo? And did he spend money on it too?”

“Kelly made his debut yesterday playing on the left, not his natural role, Juve was playing badly even before he came on, he certainly has extenuating circumstances but the player seen yesterday is still a player who wouldn’t play as a starter even in Serie B.” said this agitated Juventus fan.

Another fan added: “Lloyd Kelly is not having the best of starts for Juve. Looks very nervy and a bit out of his depth.”

Finally, this fan said: “Many have been criticized for having misjudged Kelly without having seen him but now we can say that they were right always late and 5 meters from the crosser without ever closing.”

What Thiago Motta said about Lloyd Kelly’s Juventus debut

Juventus fans have not taken kindly to Kelly after his debut for the club. However, Thiago Motta has gone public with his assessment of the 26-year-old and thinks the complete opposite of the fans.

Motta was pleased with Kelly after his stint – the Englishman played at left-back, not his natural position but one he played in at Newcastle on occasion.

While his debut may not have been anything to shout about, Motta believes there is more to come from Kelly.

In his post-match press conference, he said: “He is a shy boy, he came in the right way. Physically he is very good, he can play as a central defender and also as a full-back.

“I saw him with great confidence. He suffered some fouls, but just like all the others who arrived.”
