Allan Saint-Maximin has missed Newcastle United’s previous two games, but there is a ‘chance’ he could return to face Totteham Hotspur.

Newcastle were without Saint-Maximin against Brentford and Aston Villa, with the Frenchman suffering a hamstring injury.

There was some concern in the media, suggesting that he could be out of action for up to six weeks. However, Eddie Howe played down those fears and there is now a possibility we could see him back this weekend.

The Magpies welcome Tottenham to St James’ Park for a mouthwatering contest that has huge Champions League implications. Howe will be desperate for a response from his players after the drubbing at Villa Park, and his squad might be boosted by the return of Allan Saint-Maximin.

Saint-Maximin has a ‘chance’ to play against Tottenham

The Athletic’s Chris Waugh has spoke on the latest episode of Pod On The Tyne and suggested that the 26-year-old could be back on Sunday.

“He was in France last week with a member of Newcastle’s fitness staff,” he said.

“He returns to Tyneside at some point this week. I think there’s a chance he will be involved next weekend [against Tottenham].”

Huge boost for Newcastle if ASM returns

With Newcastle really struggling offensively against Aston Villa, seeing Saint-Maximin return will be extremely welcome.

While he may not have been able to change the game against Unai Emery’s side, the Tottenham clash is set up for him to thrive. Maxi normally always delivers in the big games at St James’ Park, and that is exactly what Sunday is.

A place in the starting XI feels unlikely given his injury, but having him back on the bench will be a huge boost. He was starting to play some brilliant football before his latest injury, picking up assists against Man United and West Ham.

When Saint-Maximin is at his best, he is basically unstoppable. That is why it is vital he is fit and firing for the run-in, as Howe’s side look to achieve what appeared impossible at the start of the season and qualify for the Champions League.
