Newcastle United are in an interesting position during the January transfer window.
Though Eddie Howe is reportedly keen to strengthen his squad in a number of key areas including in goal, in midfield and up front, Newcastle may not be able to spend much.
A quiet window has been tipped by the likes of Ben Jacobs, while FFP constraints are said to loom again too.
Indeed, spending big this month could also have an impact on what happens in the summer too, with one of Sven Botman, Alexander Isak or Bruno Guimaraes reportedly likely to be sold should that happen.
Still, it seems journalist Dean Jones is hearing some positive noises around what might happen.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the noted transfer insider said Newcastle will “definitely” sign players this month, albeit they might be on loan deals.
Despite going out of Europe and the Carabao Cup amid a huge battle to get back towards the top four, those behind the scenes are believed to think the season remains very much alive.
“They believe they can still reach the top four,” he said.
“They believe obviously that they’ve got the prospect of an FA Cup run potentially if they could do well. It’s the potential of a trophy.
“So they’ll keep pushing forward and in the January transfer window, we’ll definitely see Newcastle sign one or two players. They might not be huge signings, they might be loans. But yeah, they’re not they’re not willing to just give up on the season.”
Newcastle transfers: New midfielder needed
The PIF era has only brought in Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali to strengthen the midfield thus far, such has been the need to invest elsewhere.
With Tonali unable to play before August, the midfield is looking somewhat light.
Though the Italian didn’t look the answer at No.6 before his ban, the lack of a true defensive midfielder was noted by pundit Tim Sherwood during the Boxing Day defeat to Nottingham Forest, perhaps explaining the links with Kalvin Phillips.
Hopefully, Newcastle can get a deal over the line in that position.
