A number of transfer targets ahead of the January window look to be emerging for Newcastle United.

Kalvin Phillips is just one of the names being touted for a move to Newcastle as Eddie Howe looks to add to his squad in a bid to battle across a number of fronts.

While it remains unclear as to how much PIF will spend in January amid FFP constraints over the course of the summer, they have so far invested in every window to date.

One of the other names linked with a move to St James’ Park is Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe.

Now, Luke Edwards has provided some fresh insight.

Indeed, the Daily Telegraph journalist was speaking on the BBC’s Football Gossip Daily Podcast.

He hinted Arsenal aren’t particularly open to selling the 23-year-old even despite his lack of regular game time of late.

“Mikel Arteta has said he remains an important player, I think Arsenal would like to keep him.”

Emile Smith Rowe fits the mould for Newcastle

The players PIF have signed during their time as owners have largely been in their early twenties, individuals who boast experience in some big teams but with something to prove.

Smith Rowe looks exactly that. Hailed as “special” by Jamie Carragher for some of his performances upon his initial breakthrough, recent opportunities have been limited.

In fact, the England international even recently admitted that he had nothing left to lose when it comes to trying to win his place back, so clearly has the desire to prove himself.

Young enough to develop under Howe and already having banked some impressive experience, a move would be logical.

If there’s a chance to sign him in January or this summer, Newcastle should take it.
