Jose Enrique believes that Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson would be a “great signing” for his former club Newcastle United.

The Magpies are leading the race to sign the one-time England international according to 90min and the Spaniard has given his seal of approval.

Henderson hasn’t featured in the Premier League at all this season and has had to settle for three appearances, which have come via the Carabao Cup, Champions League and FA Cup.

David de Gea’s return to his best form has left the 25-year-old in the wilderness and facing the growing possibility of missing out on Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this winter’s World Cup.

After pulling out of the European Championships with a hip injury, Henderson would be devastated to miss out on consecutive major international tournaments.

Barring a complete transformation when Manchester United appoint their new permanent manager, Henderson is likely to seek a move away from Old Trafford this summer to pursue regular first team football.

Such is PIF’s desire to land Henderson, the Toon Army will reportedly not stand in Martin Dubravka’s way this summer if he wanted to leave.

Henderson already has 49 Premier League games under his belt following his season-long loan at Sheffield United and the 13 top-flight games he played for the Red Devils last season.

After pulling out of the Euros squad last summer, Henderson had hoped to steal a march on de Gea, who was in the Spain squad, in the quest to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and start the season as Man United’s number one.

But after testing positive for Covid-19, Henderson struggled with the aftereffects of catching the virus, and he didn’t make his first appearance of the season until September.

But despite enduring a frustrating year of inactivity, Newcastle’s former left-back Jose Enrique feels that Henderson more than fits Eddie Howe and PIF’s billing.

The Spaniard responded to Fabrizio Romano’s recent update on Newcastle pursuing Henderson, via Instagram. He wrote: “I really believe it will be great signing for Newcastle. What do you think?’
